China is quickly becoming one of my favorite countries to visit. Having just returned from my third trip to China, including our second time to Beijing, I am reminded of the stunning beauty Beijing has to offer - both natural and man-made. We hope this selection of photos motivates you to visit this beautiful city.
Thanks to social media, particularly Instagram's picture perfect photos of various paradise-like locations worldwide, many people tend to think that travel is all butterflies and roses and happily-ever-afters. Travel is many things. It is education. It is memories. It is new people and new places and new foods and new smells. But it is not always fun, and it is not always easy. Continual travel requires continual expansion of one's self to learn new skills and to be more self-aware.
One thing I learned this year is that it is okay to not enjoy every place we go, everything we do, and every food we eat. I do not have to like Beijing's spam-riddled fried rice, for instance. I have learned to categorize my experiences into things I loved, things I liked, things that were neither agreeable nor disagreeable, and things I will never ever do again for as long as I live. Marvin and I have been traveling together since 2011, and since then, we have encountered a number of not-so-fun, not-so-easy situations as we travel. In an effort to be completely transparent about the downside to travel, I have put together a collection of our best-of-the-worst travel experiences. Read about our travel predicaments & frustrations, which we can fondly look back at as "bloopers.""Oh, you have to visit Clifton Hill! So much to do there! It's lots of fun!" Our Uber driver, on learning that I had not visited Niagara Falls for many years, that Marvin had never visited Niagara Falls before, and that we were having a difficult time finding things to do on the American side of Niagara Falls, directs us to the Canadian side, exclaiming that Clifton Hill is the place to be.
"The greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted." So says Bill Bryson, renowned travel writer, and the man who so often and so eloquently puts my feelings into words.
We have found that, while traveling, things rarely go as planned. That doesn't mean we don't make any plans. But it means that we are open to, expect, and even embrace the adventures that often ensue when spontaneous changes of plans present themselves.
Because travel is our passion, we are adding a new category for our blog posts, "Motivation," dedicated to travel quotes to help ignite your travel flame and get you motivated to book your next trip! Watch for a new one (almost) every Monday!
