Are Expensive Family Resorts Worth It?
Family vacations are often a significant investment, and the allure of luxurious family resorts—offering all-inclusive packages, kid-friendly amenities, and premium experiences—can be tempting. But are they worth the price?

Read on for the pros and cons to help you decide.

THe Pros of Expensive Family REsorts

The Pros of Expensive Family Resorts

Convenience

Many high-end resorts are all-inclusive, offering everything from meals and activities to childcare in one location, minimizing stress for parents.

High-Quality Amenities

Upscale resorts often have spacious accommodations, pools with slides or waterparks, kids’ clubs, and entertainment tailored for families.

Exceptional Service

Staff at premium resorts go above and beyond, catering to family needs, from babysitting to personalized dining options.

Memorable Experiences

From snorkeling excursions to cultural performances, expensive resorts frequently include unique activities that create unforgettable memories.

The Cons of Expensive Family Resorts

The Cons of Expensive Family Resorts

High Cost

Luxury resorts come with hefty price tags that may not fit every family’s budget, especially when factoring in travel expenses.

Limited Exploration

Resorts often encourage guests to stay on-site, which can limit authentic cultural experiences and interactions with the local community.

Crowded Atmosphere

Popular family resorts may feel crowded during peak seasons, potentially diminishing the sense of exclusivity.

Over-Scheduled Itineraries

With so many activities available, families may feel pressured to pack their days, which can lead to burnout instead of relaxation.

Factors To Consider

Your Family's Personal Preferences

If your kids love waterparks and themed activities, resorts might be ideal. However, if your family enjoys exploring off-the-beaten-path destinations, a less structured vacation may be better.

Your Budget

Consider whether the cost aligns with your financial priorities. Affordable alternatives, like renting vacation homes or choosing smaller boutique hotels, can offer great value.

Length of Stay

For short trips, the convenience of an all-inclusive resort might justify the cost, but for extended vacations, expenses can add up quickly.

Expensive family resorts can be worth the cost for those seeking convenience, high-quality amenities, and curated family experiences. However, they may not be the best choice for families on a tight budget or those seeking cultural immersion.

To strike a balance, consider combining a shorter stay at a luxury resort with more affordable, culturally immersive options. When we took Emmett to Oahu, we spent the first two nights at Aulani Resort so that Emmett could see Mickey and Friends and we could enjoy a luxury experience. Then we headed to Waikiki for a few days of site-seeing on our timeline. Ultimately, the value depends on your family’s travel style, goals, and financial priorities. Whatever you choose, the most important thing is creating cherished memories together.
