As we walk down Washington Avenue headed into downtown Houston, we take in the sights, sounds, and smells of the city.
Asphalt and exhaust, freshly-baked bread and freshly-cut grass, rubber and sewage, tacos and coffee and pizza and burgers and not-so-fresh seafood all combine in one gloriously putrid smell that we both love and hate, simultaneously and equally. Somehow we cannot get enough of those smells. Each city has its own unique combination of smells, some heavier on the day-old seafood, others heavier on the fresh baked goods. But in every city we have roamed, we encounter wonderful combinations of heavenly and rancid smells.
