Embarking on a journey into the year 2024 brings with it a renewed sense of wanderlust and a desire to explore the world's wonders. In 2023, we were able to check off a few new places - a Disney cruise, Los Cabos, Dauphin Island, and College Station - as well as return to some well-known-to-us places - New Orleans, Northwest Pennsylvania, Austin, and the Tampa Bay Area. Our 2024 travel bucket list beckons us with promises of new horizons, unexpected encounters, and unforgettable memories waiting to be etched into the fabric of our lives. But for Marvin's birthday in February this year, we're going to plan to make it to Vegas for a couple of days. Booked for February! Honolulu, HawaiiWhen we got married in Honolulu nearly five years ago, we said that we would return for our fifth anniversary. We are thrilled to be able to take Emmett to experience some of the wonderful sites and activities that Honolulu has to offer - Disney Aulani, the Honolulu Zoo, and so much more! Booked for March! WacoThough I've been to many of the small towns and several of the large cities in Texas, Waco has never made the list. But in April, we will drive to Waco with friends to see the eclipse! The AirBNB is booked (crossing our fingers that the hosts don't get greedy and cancel on us in order to get more money from someone else, which, by the way, should definitely not be allowed, but I'm hearing the horror stories and just holding my breath that it doesn't happen to us), and we are excited to experience the eclipse and all that Waco has to offer! Booked for April! EuropeYes, this is very broad. Honestly, I would like to get over to Europe multiple times next year, since we didn't make it over there at all this year or last, and I have multiple itineraries I want to explore. One of these trips (or the only one) may also involve my mother-in-law to celebrate my 40th birthday and her 70th birthday (shh.... she doesn't know this yet). I would still love to do a Netherlands and Belgium itinerary, where we would visit Amsterdam and Rotterdam in The Netherlands, as well as Antwerp, Ghent, and Bruges in Belgium. I would also love to visit my cousins in Scotland. I came very close to booking tickets to Inverness this year when the prices dropped, but then I hesitated, and then the flight prices went back up, and here we are at the end of this year having not made it to Scotland. But when we do go, we will hopefully fly into Inverness (where I've never been) and then spend time in Glasgow and Edinburgh (two cities that we absolutely love). But I would also really love to make it to Switzerland, Austria, and Hungary. The Alps and the Danube are calling my name! NORTH CAROLINA AND SOUTH CAROLINAAt some point this summer, my plan is to finally make it to Winston-Salem and Greensboro, NC, to visit friends, as well as Greenville and Charleston, SC, to visit family. We will visit the International Civil Rights Center in Greensboro, the Children's Museum in Winston-Salem, Falls Park and the zoo in Greenville, and the South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston. CartagenaThis is another one that we had hoped to do last year, but didn't make it to. Of all the countries we have been to, Marvin and I have never visited a country in South America, so our goal is spend a few days in Cartagena, Colombia, provided that we can find tickets down there that do not cost a small fortune. The weather should be beautiful in August, when we are hoping to go, and I cannot wait to walk the cobblestone streets and explore the food scene. Pennsylvania and Upstate New YorkIn September, we'll be traveling to my hometown in Pennsylvania for my little cousin's wedding. While there, I hope to make the drive up to Niagara Falls to introduce Emmett to the magnificence of the Falls and the fun experiences on Clifton Hill. By the way, if you are heading to Niagara Falls, check out my article on the best ways to see the Falls. LOS ANGELES & ANAHEIMWe were hoping to do this for Emmett's birthday this year, but because of a health scare, we ended up just driving to Mississippi and Alabama and spending a couple days on the beach and in the outdoors for his birthday trip. So this year, we are planning on flying out to LA and taking him to Disneyland for his birthday. BreckenridgeBreck has been on my radar for a long time, but next year we want Emmett to experience snow in December. Plus, Breckenridge puts on quite a show during the holidays, with twinkling lights all up and down Main Street, a Christmas market, and of course, the ski slopes. These are, again, quite lofty travel goals, but perhaps 2024 will be the year we will pull it off! What are your travel plans and dreams for 2024?
