A Mad Hatter "ONE"derland Birthday Tea Party
This is absolutely not the same kind of post you are used to seeing here. But Emmett's first birthday party came together so nicely that I couldn't help but offer some instructions and ideas for you to create your own Mad Hatter "ONE"derland party.

Read on to see Wonderland-Themed birthday party ideas.

decorations

I bought red and white roses, then partially painted the white roses red. For the doorknob, I had a roll of brown paper. I measured the front door, cut the paper slightly longer so I could wrap it over the top, and drew the face of the doorknob on it, filling it in with yellow and black paint.

The day of the party, I stuck the roses into the hedge and taped the doorknob over the front door.

For the birdcage bird from Tulgey Wood, I bought a vintage birdcage, drew the face of the bird on construction paper, hot glued two foam birds inside the cage, and used extra long red pipe cleaners I found at Michaels for the legs.

I loved the colorful tea pots I ordered from the English Tea Store. They made cute decorations that also functioned as vessels for our beverages (water and two types of iced teas).

I made the mome raths using wooden clothes pins I painted bright colors and large pom poms that I hot glued on top.

I also bought a stuffed Cheshire Cat, which I stuck in the tree outside our house and tied there with fishing line. The mome raths went under the tree, and I made a "Don't Step on the Mome Raths" sign out of cardboard to hang on the tree.

Games

We painted a vintage croquet set the colors of the flamingo and hedgehog croquet set the Queen plays with and we let the kids smack the balls around the park area.

I also set up a photo scavenger hunt. For your free copy of the scavenger hunt I used, send me an email!

costumes

If you want to just purchase a pre-made costume, here are some ideas.
But if you want to create a Mad Hatter costume yourself, as I did, check out these options.
(For the shirt, click the one shown and look at the green button down.) Pair these with a pair of green dress pants and a blue bow tie.
For the Mad Hatter's hat, my very talented mom hand made his hat. She matched the fabric to Emmett's pants and added a green felt band and the 10/6 felt card. The result was a soft, lightweight, comfortable hat that Emmett gladly left on all day.

We had such a great time with Emmett's Mad Hatter ONEderland Party! We also made a Mad Hatter's hat cake (chocolate) and an Emmett in ONEderland book cake (white), ordered Cheshire-Cat-colored macarons from a local baker, created a balloon arch, and made card soldier props out of balloons. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to reach out!
