In a short 45-minute drive, you can arrive at the coastal town of Dalkey. During the Middle Ages, Dalkey was a major port, with seven small castles erected to store grains and other shipments. Today you can visit Dalkey Castle with a tour guide and learn the history of the castle and the town of Dalkey. With adorable gift shops and restaurants galore, Dalkey is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a meal of fresh seafood. And with just 8,000 residents and a small downtown area, Dalkey is easily walkable.

Situated in Balbriggan, 45 minutes north of Dublin, near the town of Skerries, Ardgillan Castle was built in the 18th century. Today it functions as a museum, with volunteer tour guides directing visitors through various rooms and educating them on the history of the castle, its inhabitants, and the artifacts throughout the castle.

One of our favorite things about Ardgillan Castle is the incredible view as we approached it from the parking area. Situated toward the bottom of a hill overlooking the Irish Sea, the castle is positively majestic.
