This is my favorite time of year. Not only do we see millions of twinkling lights and happy little holiday decorations, but there are also tons of great events lined up across the city! Click to read our bucket list for December, 2021, in Houston, TX.Zoo Lights at Zoo HoustonEvery year, TXU Energy presents "Zoo Lights," when the Houston Zoo comes alive with a winter wonderland of twinkling lights and holiday decorations. We went last year when Emmett was only about 6 weeks old and really enjoyed it. He slept through the whole thing. But this year I'm sure he'll appreciate the twinkly lights. Zoo Lights runs through January 9th this year. Christmas on the BoulevardEvery year, we make our annual drive through River Oaks to see the stately mansions covered in lights and Christmas decorations. From Nativity scenes to Santa displays to a real live Santa taking pictures with visiting youngsters, River Oaks residents know how to "make the season bright." This year, we also plan to visit St. John the Divine Episcopal Church on River Oaks Boulevard to view the live nativity and possibly stay for the concert and live jazz reception. This event takes place on December 18th, from 4:00 to 8:00. Galaxy Lights at Space Center HoustonThis interactive lights display runs each evening through January 2nd. We have never been to the Space Center so this is at the top of our list for this year. Mosaic of Light at Discovery GreenEvery year, Discovery Green is lit up with various lights displays. This year, Mosaic of Light by HYBYCOZO plays with shapes and shadows, offering visitors an immersive lights experience. While you're at Discovery Green, take a spin around the Green Mountain Energy ice skating rink. Legacy Ford Toys for Tots Car ShowThis annual car show in Rosenberg requires an entry fee of one new, unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots. Featuring cars, trucks, and motorcycles, this event takes place on December 11, from 8:00 to 3:00. International Food FestivalOn December 18, we will head into downtown Houston for food, entertainment, dancing, shopping from local vendors, and some cultural experiences at the International Food Festival.
